Online Seminar: Mercury Emission Monitoring
Objective:
The seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in continuous mercury emission monitoring and the types of equipment available on the market. Special aspects to be considered in this context for rotary kiln plants in the cement industry will be presented.
Target Group:
The seminar is aimed at environmental and process engineers as well as technicians.
Description:
Continuous monitoring of mercury emissions is required by law for rotary kiln plants in the cement industry in Germany and Austria, provided that waste fuels are used. In these countries, there is extensive experience with the use of mercury measuring devices, although numerous difficulties had to be overcome in the early days. In this respect it has been helpful that new, significantly improved types of devices have been developed by manufacturers in recent years. The seminar will give a comprehensive overview of the currently commercially available devices. The respective manufacturers will be invited to present their latest solutions. In addition, the practical experience gained in the cement industry in recent years will be presented. Beside these metrological issues, the current status of possible mercury reduction strategies will be highlighted.
Presentations:
- Current legal and political situation
- Lessons learned? - Experiences with the use of continuous mercury measuring devices in the cement industry
- Monitoring mercury emissions - different approaches by manufacturers (Mercem 300 Z, SM-5, CMM)
- Mercury Freedom Systems
- Mercury in cement production: An overview
- Future developments in European research and standardisation
